In the painting, atop the historic Vernors Bottling Plant that was located on Woodward Avenue, Detroit's very own Vernors Ginger Ale sign is visible in the top left background. The jolly Vernors Gnome can be seen gleefully pouring the magic elixir to put out the fire, thus keeping Detroit's city seal and motto: "Speramus Meliora; Resurget Cineribus" ("We hope for better things; it shall arise from the ashes") alive.
